Today, the UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan Dr. Saja Farooq Abdullah met with the Minister of Health, Dr. Teymur Musayev, to discuss the collaboration between UNICEF and the Ministry on priority aspects of maternal and child health. This also included discussion around immunization of children against vaccine-preventable diseases to prevent potential risks and outbreaks.
UNICEF regional immunization specialists, who are currently visiting Azerbaijan, joined the discussion to share their observations and recommendations for joint efforts to increase vaccine uptake and prevent morbidity and mortality among children.
"Azerbaijan has made significant progress in the area of maternal and child health over the last 30 years. UNICEF is ready to further support the Ministry of Health to ensure every child in Azerbaijan gets a healthy start in life," said Dr. Saja Farooq Abdullah.
The UNICEF Representative also highlighted that COP29 provides an excellent opportunity to showcase collaborative initiatives between UNICEF and the Ministry in the area of environmental health. "Virtually every child on the planet is affected by climate change. We must act together to protect children's health and mitigate the impact of climate change on their future," Dr. Saja Farooq Abdullah emphasized.
