Every child has a right to a healthy environment. While children are less responsible for climate change, they suffer the most from climate hazards. They feel the immediate effects which can be irreversible for their development.
A healthy environment for children and youth became one of the topics discussed during the first day of the Baku Decide event. UNICEF invited international and local health experts to talk about how environmental factors can impact children and how we can create a healthy future for future generations.
In his speech, Abheet Solomon, Senior Health Programme Manager from UNICEF Headquarters, highlighted the importance of engaging young people and children in shaping the decisions that affect their future.
In 2023, UNICEF in collaboration with the Ministry of Health conducted the first-ever Children's Environmental Health Assessment in Azerbaijan through a comprehensive analysis of the current state of children's environmental health.
Key findings of this assessment were presented by Dr. Ismayil Afandiyev, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the First Department of Internal Medicine of the Azerbaijan Medical University
UNICEF works to ensure that policies on climate, environment, energy and disaster risk reduction integrate children's and young people's views, concerns and solutions. Policies shape the world that the younger generation experiences today and will inherit in the future.
