On December 13, UNICEF, together with partners, organized a national workshop in Baku to discuss the roadmap and action plan for Early Childhood Development (ECD).
The goal of the event was to advocate for a comprehensive Early Childhood Strategy and present the best international ECD practices.
The venue was also used to present a national ECD roadmap, developed with the support of UNICEF and reviewed by the National Technical Working Group. The objective was to determine the next steps, exchange ideas, and make suggestions for an effective coordination mechanism for the implementation of the roadmap.
UNICEF Regional Early Childhood Development specialist Vidur Chopra has joined the event as one of key speaker. Mr Chopra shared examples of countries such as Turkey and Ireland with the participants of the event, providing information about the global experience within the ECD concept.
Tohfa Jamilova, UNICEF Health and Nutrition Chief presented outlined the timeline for early childhood development in our country and presented the road map for EUDI determined for Azerbaijan.
The SDG roadmap is based on the global and transformative 2030 Agenda, is directly linked to many of the Sustainable Development Goals, and reflects the country's priorities for achieving them. Thus, ensuring the age-appropriate development of children under 5, ending preventable deaths and all forms of malnutrition, reducing child abuse and pollution-related deaths and illnesses, and universal and equal access to quality early childhood care, and preschool education, ensuring access and other priorities form the basis of the road map.
Accepting and successfully implementing such a strategic document will enable the country to achieve the goals set within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, develop human capital, and fully realize the potential of children who are the future of the country.
The participants of the seminar, in turn, discussed in groups and presented their collective ideas and proposals on the next steps, implementation methods and financing of the road map.
