UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight drives change for children and young people by generating evidence, collecting data, featuring the voices of children and offering foresight on frontier issues and emerging practices. Our work aims to inform policy and advocacy that will eventually help UNICEF and the global community protect the lives and rights of children, young people and families.
Led by Director Bo Viktor Nylund, UNICEF Innocenti is sustained by a passionate team of experts. Our research and foresight units are rich and diverse knowledge banks that bring multidisciplinary approaches and informed analysis to research and foresight.

Our work
Our research and foresight agenda focuses on the challenges – especially the challenges often overlooked – that require more evidence, analysis and innovative solutions to improve the lives of children. This agenda is set in close consultation with the wider UNICEF organization and with external stakeholders.
Each year, we prepare and disseminate key global publications including UNICEF’s flagship publication The State of the World’s Children. Through this work, we bring children’s issues front and centre in global discourse and leverage UNICEF’s influence to drive meaningful conversations and change for children, young people and families.

Our partners
We partner with academic and policy research institutions, think-tanks and non-governmental organizations. We also support and facilitate research conducted by other teams in the wider UNICEF family. Strategic communication and research engagement ensure that our work is widely disseminated and influences policies and programmes that impact the lives of children.
Our convening events are geared towards collaboration. Events include high-level gatherings, expert working groups, workshops and seminars that are attended by academics, policymakers, practitioners and young people. Find out about our upcoming events.
