Highlights

Adolescence represents one of the most complex development stages in human life. It is characterized by dramatic physical, psychological and social changes, through which one develops a sense of identity (both social and personal), as well as new forms of behaviour. Bearing in mind the discrepancy between physical and physiological development at this very sensitive stage of development for every individual, as well as the fact that this is the very stage when a new sense of identity is being forged and autonomy is expanding significantly, it is necessary for society to pay special attention to the needs of this subpopulation. It is necessary for society to engage proactively with children and young people and set up a system that would ensure adequate support for them during this development stage.
