Osh, Kyrgyzstan – On January 25, 2024, UNICEF handed over 25 large tents to the Ministry of Emergency of the Kyrgyz Republic. They can be used as a temporary learning place, nutrition or health facilities or accommodating facility for homeless populations.  The total cost of the equipment is more than 4 700 000 KGS.

The official handover ceremony occurred in Osh city, attended by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov and UNICEF Representative in Kyrgyzstan a.i. Cristina Brugiolo.

There are two versions of tents suitable for warm and cold weather conditions. The dimensions of the tents are 72 sq. m and 42 sq. m. Additionally, UNICEF supplied tarpaulins, special tent material that can used for flooring and some sanitary equipment for emergency situations.

"Regrettably, we cannot prevent all emergency situations. However, through preparedness, we can mitigate the adverse effects of natural disasters and emergencies. We trust that this equipment will further enhance Kyrgyzstan’s ability to respond to emergency situations and protect the vulnerable populations, particularly children and women," remarked UNICEF Representative in Kyrgyzstan a.i. Cristina Brugiolo.

UNICEF remains committed to supporting the Kyrgyz Republic in strengthening the country’s preparedness and response to emergency situations, with a particular emphasis on ensuring children's safety.
