100 schools in Kyrgyzstan receive computer equipment

06 March 2024

Schools equipped with the support of UNICEF and the Government of Japan took part in the first large-scale online lesson on digitalization and digital security with the participation of the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov. New computers and audio-visual equipment allowed students to successfully connect and participate in the lesson. In total, UNICEF has equipped 100 computer classes throughout Kyrgyzstan.

The total cost of the equipment amounted to more than 58 million soms (650,000 US dollars). It is provided as part of the project to mitigate impact of COVID-19 on the education system, funded by the Government of Japan.

The targeted schools are located around Bishkek and Osh, as well as in other regions of the country. They have been identified by the Ministry of Education and Science to improve digital learning and literacy.

In total, more than 4 thousand schoolchildren from 217 schools in Kyrgyzstan took part in the online lesson via video conference.

UNICEF continues to support the government in promoting digital technologies, especially in education and health.
