In late September, more than 100,000 people fled to Armenia following an escalation of hostilities in their home communities. These families are now struggling to rebuild their lives – having no place to stay, no means of employment or living, little to no belongings.
The increasingly difficult humanitarian situation they have endured in recent years, the fear of attacks and sometimes repeated displacement from their homes have put all of them at risk of deteriorating mental health and psychological disorders. In addition, children haven’t had consistent access to quality education and health services in their communities.
In times of such crises, children hurt the most.
UNICEF works with the Government of Armenia and local partners to address the most pressing needs:
- Providing critical medical supplies and equipment for children, as well as dispatching mobile pediatric teams to the regions where refugee families have settled.
- Distributing family hygiene kits, blankets and food packages for children.
- Ensuring that children in need have school bags and educational materials.
- Creating additional learning spaces to ensure all children are able to access education.
- Establishing temporary safe corners for children, designed to help them feel safe and supported.
- Delivering psychosocial assistance to children and their parents along with case management to support with family-specific needs.
But the needs are far greater, as host communities grapple with scarce resources and limited infrastructure.
Time is of the essence for refugee children in Armenia, as they are in need of sustained psychosocial support, winterization kits, nutrition and healthcare services, along with access to quality education to catch up.
The needs are pressing, and your assistance can bring critical relief to those in distress.
Please donate now. No amount is too small, and every donation counts.
