Landscape analysis of large-scale fortification of oil & wheat flour in West & Central Africa

A look at the status, challenges and opportunities for the future

Highlights

Malnutrition caused by deficiency of one or more essential micronutrients is widespread and endemic among developing countries. As part of the fight against micronutrient malnutrition, many African countries have implemented mandatory vitamin and mineral fortification programmes for wheat flour and refined vegetable oil.

This study provides a situational analysis of large-scale mandatory fortification of wheat flour and vegetable oil in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal.
