Formative Research on Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Nutrition in Viet Nam

Targeting Hard to Reach Populations in Soc Trang, Gia Lai and Dien Bien

Highlights

A Research Brief provides a holistic overview of the communities particularly in areas with high ethnic minority populations in three provinces: Soc Trang, Gia Lai and Dien Bien on water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and nutrition. The key findings include an analysis of the market system for WASH (including WASH in schools) and Nutrition, which assessed three domains covering demand, supply and enabling environments. The research aimed to understand the demand, supply, and enabling environment for affordable and climate resilient WASH and nutrition products, the services and practices of the main ethnic groups, and the barriers driving unhealthy practices among communities.

This research facilitated by UNICEF Viet Nam, the National Centre for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, and Viet Nam Health Environment Management Agency, and three provinces.
