Highlights

Women, men and children with disabilities are vulnerable groups of society in all countries around the world and they face difficulties exercising their rights and overcoming existing barriers.

With support from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Tajikistan, a baseline study on knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practices related to children and women with disabilities in Tajikistan was carried out in 2016 and involved data collection from selected districts in all parts of the country. Similarly, in 2020 an end line study on knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practices related to children and women with disabilities in Tajikistan was carried out - the results of this study are reflected in this report.

The aim of the end line study was to generate information related to knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and social norms related to social inclusion of children and women with disabilities in Tajikistan and to compare changes that have occurred since the baseline study carried out back in 2016.

In this report, you will find the main barriers that prevent children and women with disabilities from accessing health and social services, education and employment. Further reflected in this report are attitudes, behaviours and practices of persons that impede or advocate for social inclusion of children and women with disabilities, as well as sources of information, communication means, groups and social networks that impact these attitudes, behaviours and practices of the community. Finally, this report provides specific recommendations to implement a series of political and practical measures with the aim of implementing the rights of children and women with disabilities and to ensure they have access to a dignified social life.
