Huancavelica, located in central-western Peru, is made up of 7 provinces and 100 districts. The region has a population of 505,498 (projected to 2018), of which 43.7 per cent (220,886) are children and adolescents. Children aged 0 to 5 years make up 15.6 per cent (78,736) of the total population, children aged 6 to 11 years represent 14.9 per cent (75,264) and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years represent 13.2 per cent (66,886).
According to the 2017 Census, Quechua is the mother tongue of 206,087 people in Huancavelica (65.2 per cent of the total population over 5 years of age)
