UNICEF and the Islamic Republic of Iran Country Programme of Cooperation 2023-2027

A glance at the UNICEF and the Islamic Republic of Iran Country Programme of Cooperation for the five years from 2023 to 2027

Highlights

UNICEF has been supporting children in Iran since the early 1950s. It initially supported vaccination of children against tuberculosis and equipped the country's first pasteurized milk factory and later expanded its activities to child health programmes, such as promoting breastfeeding, vaccination and preventing diarrhea. Further expansion of UNICEF’s activities included protecting children against violence and promoting equitable access to education for all children.

UNICEF’s current five-year country programme of cooperation in Iran (2023-2027) is aimed at ensuring that all children and adolescents, especially the most vulnerable, benefit from an integrated social protection system, which meets their needs for health, nutrition, education, water, sanitation and overall protection and well-being of children in both development and humanitarian settings. The programme also aims to ensure that children’s participation and inclusion in their communities are fully realised, allowing them to reach their full potential.
