Warsaw, April 18, 2024 – Ms. Nona Zicherman became the new Country Coordinator for the UNICEF Refugee Response in Poland. Ms. Zicherman brings with her a wealth of expertise in social policy, child rights and international development, as well as experience working in humanitarian and post-conflict contexts.
As the new UNICEF Country Coordinator Ms. Zicherman will continue to strengthen UNICEF’s partnerships with the central and local Government, the international community and civil society to ensure that refugee children and adolescents living in Poland are healthy and protected, and have all the support they need to reach their full potential.

Prior to her appointment as the UNICEF Country Coordinator for Poland, Ms. Zicherman served in Kosovo as the UNICEF Head of Office from 2021-2024. She also worked in Türkiye from 2015-2021, first as Emergency Coordinator and then as Deputy Representative. Previously Ms. Zicherman was UNICEF’s Chief of Emergency and Transition in the Democratic Republic of Congo and an emergency specialist in the East and Southern Africa Regional Office.
An international development professional with twenty years of experience, Ms. Zicherman has worked with the United Nations, international non-governmental organizations and the private sector in Europe, Africa and Asia. A dual national of the United States and France and the proud parent of two daughters, she holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University.
