Ms. Regina De Dominicis is UNICEF’s new Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, based in Geneva, Switzerland. In her new role, Ms. De Dominicis will also serve as UNICEF Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and Special Coordinator for the Refugee and Migrant Response in Europe. She took up her functions in July 2023.
Prior to this assignment, Ms. De Dominicis was UNICEF’s Representative in the Republic of Türkiye, where she led UNICEF’s largest programme in the Europe and Central Asia region. During her career spanning over 25 years, Ms. De Dominicis has also held several other senior positions within UNICEF, including Representative to the Republic of Serbia, Representative to the Kingdom of Morocco, and Deputy Representative to the Republic of Türkiye.
Before joining UNICEF, Ms. De Dominicis worked for a decade with the European Commission and the European Agency for Reconstruction, in both humanitarian and development contexts. In these roles, she was responsible for the planning and implementation of programmes that promote improvements in the rule of law and public administration, the strengthening of democracy and civil society, the reform of public administration and the modernization of education systems. Prior to that, Ms. De Dominicis worked as a public relations officer in Canada, focusing on corporate social responsibility.
Ms. De Dominicis is a national of Italy. She holds a master’s degree in European studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and a bachelor’s degree in political sciences, specialising in international relations from LUISS University in Rome, Italy.
