Highlights

The ‘Peacebuilding Dialogues Production Guide’ is a resource for organizations working with children and young people, as well as youth who are inspired to activate their own group discussions. The guide provides a background to ‘peace’ related language and practical information on how to host a community-led peacebuilding dialogue, either face-to-face or online. Steps towards a successful dialogue and tips for facilitating are included in the guide.

The aim of the guide is to help put children and young people at the center of community-based peacebuilding and social cohesion work. Children and young people are often the most affected by instability and violence within their communities but they can also be the most effective in defusing a situation and in building a more stable future. They can play a critical role in breaking the cycle of violence during and following unrest.

This guide was produced with the direct involvement of children and young people following the July 2021 unrest in Kwa Zulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces. As the violence and looting unfolded, it was clear that youth will be critical stakeholders in bringing communities back together and in promoting social cohesion.
