Ghana: Improving approaches to Child Marriage

In 2017, UNICEF Ghana in partnership with the government and civil society, commissioned an external formative assessment of strategies and approaches to address child marriage implemented during 2014-2016. The findings of the assessment critically highlighted successful approaches and lessons learned, as well as current gaps and recommendations for programme improvement. Recommendations have informed strategies on programming for adolescent girls, and are being used for advocacy to ensure cross-sectoral linkages to holistically address interrelated drivers of child marriage. Findings were also utilised to develop a cross-sectoral proposal on adolescent sexual reproductive health and development for the Government of Canada, and the development of the 2018/2020 Annual Work Plans for the UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to End Child Marriage.
