The UNICEF Botswana website details programmes on child protection and other key areas.

GABORONE , Botswana, 16 December 2011 – The UNICEF Botswana office has launched a website, a platform for highlighting the organization’s programmes and for announcing news and events related to UNICEF’s projects and partners in Botswana.

The site covers UNICEF’s work in three main programme areas: young child survival and development, child adolescent protection and participation, and advocacy and planning.

Additional children’s issues can be found on the ‘Young voices’ page, which highlights the views and opinions of children across Botswana. This page also has a ‘vox pop’ spot, where children can directly communicate their concerns and exercise their rights to expression and community participation.

Highlighting partnerships

The website has thus far covered the launch of ‘Wise UP’, a multimedia campaign led by the National AIDS Coordination Agency (NACA). In partnership with UNICEF, NACA is working to disseminate HIV/AIDS prevention messages to children through various media platforms.

HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programmes are also major priorities for UNICEF Botswana.

Also found on the website is information about UNICEF Representative Doreen Mulenga’s recent visit to the town of Maun. There, she met with civil society partners, including Bana Ba Letsatsi Sunshine Children, Motse Wa Tsholofelo, and Women Against Rape.

UNICEF Botswana publications and reports are also available on the site.

Moving forward

Going forward, the UNICEF Botswana website will be frequently updated to cover new issues and programmes, offering a timely glimpse of the agency’s work in the country. The ‘Young voices’ page will also be made more interactive, better enabling the children of Botswana to express themselves, call attention to issues affecting them, and communicate their views to the world.
