Humanly Possible: Immunization for all
Celebrating immunization and investing in a future where vaccinating every child is #HumanlyPossible.
Think of a person. Not someone you know. Someone you’ve never met. Picture them on the other side of the world, somewhere you’ve never been.
You share one of humanity’s greatest achievements: immunization. Because like you, they’ve had their childhood vaccines.
In the last 50 years alone, vaccines have saved 154 million lives. That’s 6 people every minute, for five decades.
Governments, aid agencies, thousands of people, from scientists and healthcare workers to diplomats and volunteers, got us to where we are today: a world where we’ve eradicated smallpox and almost eradicated polio; a world where more children than ever before in history live to see their fifth birthday. And although you probably don’t remember the exact moment it happened, you are part of this story. Because by being immunized, you have helped to protect others, just as they help to protect you.
But we need your help again. In 2024, vaccines need urgent funding, so we’re calling on governments everywhere to prioritize investment in immunization. With your voice, we can reach every child, no matter who they are or where they live.
Let’s protect humanity’s greatest achievement, because no child should die of an illness we know how to prevent.
Just imagine, a future without cervical cancer. A future without polio or malaria. We’ve done it before. We can do it again. Let’s show the world what’s #HumanlyPossible.
UNICEF’s call to action
Vaccines are one of the most effective and cost-efficient public health interventions that exist. But they can’t save lives unless we invest in them. It’s time for governments to re-commit to vaccines.
- We call on donor countries to financially invest in vaccines. 2024 is a crucial fundraising year if we want to maintain the progress that has been made over the last 50 years and work to bring vaccines to the entire world.
- In countries where high numbers of children are missing some or all their routine vaccines, we call on governments to:
- commit politically, programmatically and financially to catch their vaccination rates up to pre-pandemic levels and to reach zero-dose children who have missed out entirely on their routine vaccinations.
- develop plans for the introduction and scale-up of key new and existing vaccines, especially against polio, malaria and human papillomavirus (HPV).
By continuing to invest in vaccines, we can ensure that no child anywhere dies of an illness we know how to prevent.

About the campaign
Humanly Possible is a joint campaign of UNICEF, WHO, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and many other partners and advocates. We’re beginning this global advocacy campaign alongside World Immunization Week, which marks the 50th anniversary of the Essential Programme on Immunization (EPI), the routine childhood vaccines that have helped to save millions lives.
Vaccines are one of humanity’s greatest achievements. Help us tell world leaders it’s time for immunization for all.
